Male waxing & laser

One client · One room · No waiting area

Private male waxing and laser in Chippendale.

A home-based studio rather than a salon, run by one person. No reception, no other clients in the room, no knowing looks — which is exactly why most men come here.

About Menzone

A non-salon, run by one bloke.

People ask how I got into men’s waxing. It’s a fair question, and the honest answer starts a long way from a waxing table. Like most guys I began with shaving and clipping, moved on pretty quickly (and prickly) to DIY kits from the chemist, and honed the technique on myself for years before anyone else was involved. You can’t get better training than that.

None of it was the plan. I studied business, and one of my first jobs out of university was product manager for a depilatories brand — which meant being trained in waxing technique myself, so I could train the beauty therapists using our products. Six years of senior management later I was stressed to my eyeballs and in need of a different life, so I stopped, and went off to the Australasian College of Natural Therapies to study massage and beauty therapy.

I started Menzone in 2004 to give men a private, discreet option, and it became known for the work most salons would rather not talk about — the back, crack and sack, and the male Brazilian. There’s a Candela laser here now too. It’s still one room, one person, one client at a time.

I don’t seem to recall “bum waxer” being one of the options discussed with my career guidance counsellor in high school.

What Bruce does

Waxing and laser, for men only.

MOST BOOKED

Back, crack and sack

The full back, buttocks and genital wax in one appointment. It is the most requested service at Menzone, and the one Bruce has done more of than any other.

NATURAL · SHAPED · NUDE

Male Brazilian

Front genital waxing, taken to whatever level you want — tidied and reduced, shaped, or taken back completely. You decide on the day, not when you book.

TORSO

Chest, stomach & shoulders

Chest, stomach, shoulders and neck, waxed individually or together. Back and shoulders is priced as one so you are not paying twice for the same session.

FULL OR HALF

Arms, legs and feet

Full or half arms and legs, plus underarms, hands, feet and toes. Common before a beach holiday, a season of cycling, or a physique competition.

DETAIL

Eyebrows, ears and nose

The small work that makes the biggest difference in photos and meetings. Quick appointments, easy to add on to anything else you are booked in for.

CANDELA · CHIPPENDALE ONLY

Laser hair removal

Permanent hair reduction using a Candela laser system. Most men need six to eight treatments to reach the clearance they are after. Available at the Chippendale studio only.

Price list

Every price, published.

What actually happens

Four steps, no surprises.

  1. Book

Pick your service and a time online and it is confirmed on the spot — around 24 hours notice is usually enough. Or send the form if you want to ask something first.

  2. Arrive

Come straight in at your appointment time. There is no reception, no waiting room and no other client in the studio.

  3. Talk first

Bruce explains exactly what is about to happen and in what order before anything starts, whether it is your first time or your fiftieth.

  4. Rebook

Waxing leaves you completely smooth for ten to fourteen days; laser needs a course. Book the next one before you head off.

FAQs

The questions men actually ask.

Does it hurt?

There is some discomfort — you are pulling hair out. But it is manageable, and the most common thing first-timers say afterwards is that it hurt nowhere near as much as they expected. It is a short, sharp sting much like taking off a Band-Aid, and it subsides within seconds of the wax coming off.

Will you be discreet and respect my privacy?

Absolutely and without question. As an ATMS member Bruce is bound by a code of conduct covering duty of care, professional boundaries and confidentiality. The studio is also private by design — no waiting room, no reception, and no other clients in the room.

Why do you never seem to answer the phone?

Because Bruce is a sole operator who is with clients most of the day, and he does not take calls mid-appointment — your half-hour wax would turn into an hour. That is what the online booking is for: it shows his real availability and confirms your time without either of you picking up the phone. If you would rather ask something first, the form goes straight to him and he answers between clients.

How long will I be hair free?

Generally ten to fourteen days completely hair free. After that the new hairs start coming through, but they are soft and fine enough to be barely noticeable for another week or two. Full regrowth takes six to eight weeks.

How many laser sessions will I need?

For most men, six to eight treatments to reach the hair clearance they are after. Laser works on hair in its active growth phase, which is why it takes a course rather than one visit.

How much notice do I need to give?

It varies a lot day to day and across the year, but as a rough guide about 24 hours is usually enough to secure an appointment on most days. The online booking shows what is actually free, so you do not have to guess.

How do I pay?

EFTPOS, Visa and Mastercard. American Express and Diners are not accepted.

Do you offer student, senior or package discounts?

No. The rates are already competitive and Bruce uses the best quality products to do the job properly — discounting would mean cutting corners somewhere.

Ask Bruce a question

Not sure which service you need, or want to know what actually happens first? First-timers ask all of this, and none of it is a silly question.

Goes straight to Bruce and nowhere else. No mailing list, nothing in the post.
